Event Description

"A living System is defined not by the individual parts, but by the between them. The flow of energy. The flow of Love.

Systemic Family Constellations – a method, an approach, a type of therapy, a collection of insights, applied philosophy, study of human relationships, a useful tool applied in many disciplines, a way of perceiving the world – which keeps captivating many around the world: those who struggle, those who want to learn and those who want to teach.” International Systemic Constellation Association   ISCA

The Family Constellation technique was developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger in the mid-1990s. Family constellations therapy evolved out of his work as a family therapist and his belief in the energy, both positive and negative, found in familial bonds and not only there. Nearly 50 years of studying and treating families led to his observation of patterns of mental health concerns, illness, negative emotions, and potentially destructive behaviors within families, and he suggested individuals might unconsciously "adopt" these concerns as a way of helping other members to cope. Proponents of family constellations believe the method to be less restrictive than other methods of therapy and support its capacity to allow people to see different perspectives and alternate solutions.

How the treatment works:

A systemic constellations session typically takes place in a workshop made up of a group of individuals who are not related. Members of the group stand in for members of the person or couple presenting a difficulty or concern.  Hellinger, the developer of family constellations, calls this sense of connectedness, which is said to be felt telepathically by members of the group, the morphogenic field.

The facilitator and participator begin with a brief discussion of the client’s issue, and some fact taking about the member. They will then decide together who of the system will be worked with. The issue-holder then asks participants in the workshop to represent or ‘stand in’ for each of the chosen members, and sometimes someone for his/herself. Although the representatives speak very little, the sense of knowing believed to result from the process is said to be apparent to all who participate. them to speak their feelings aloud.
This spatial representation of the members also gives the facilitator immediate information about the him/herself with a visual, live picture of the family’s relationships. The participator begins to literally see how he/she is bound to the wider system and to individuals within the system in this 3 dimensional, moving picture of itself.
The facilitator is then guided by feedback from the representatives.  Slowly the picture changes. The facilitator may ask members to explain what they are feeling, specifically in their relation to other. This may shed light on certain emotions and relational aspects that can be clearly connected to the issue being addressed.

The facilitator in the session repositions members, occasionally asking them to speak their feelings aloud. Members may be moved from place to place in the constellation until they find a position or are able to make a verbal statement expressing feelings of comfort with their place in the constellation. The subconscious is leading us through the session with its power. Becasue it shows us the direct issues and how we can resolve the problem. What takes sometimes many other healing sessions, is done in only one constellation work session. It is amazingly effective.
