Event Description

Exploring the healing potential of the horse-human partnership.

This program was developed for counselors, therapists, social workers, educators or coaches who already have experience with horses and wish to incorporate horses into their existing work supporting others.

Module 1. Foundations: Principles of equine-facilitated learning and healing work

The basics of a somatic and observational approach to working with horses:

• introduction to the brain and the nervous system, including the functions of the amygdala, hippocampus, and neocortex; the vagus nerve and the window of tolerance/welcome; the impact of trauma; neuroplasticity and post-traumatic growth; and the roles of the hemispheres in integrated functioning

• healing through relationship: limbic resonance, regulation and revision, and how this can occur through equine-facilitated work

• the importance of naming sensations, feelings, and needs: the healing impact of empathy/resonant accompaniment (for ourselves and others)

Learning to facilitate one-on-one (one client, one horse) reflective sessions with horses.

• the resource pack for Module 1 includes flows for observational and reflective sessions and related processes
