There is an overwhelming amount of research showing that stress is a major factor contributing to chronic disease these days.

The antidote to stress is relaxation, in most cases.
Techniques to help your body and mind relax can shift you out of the stress response. To relax physically and emotionally (mentally), you may explore techniques including...
  • hypnotherapy,
  • massage,
  • biofeedback,
  • guided imagery or “visualization,” and
  • breathwork.
Many relaxation techniques can be learned and self-administered, requiring only brief instruction as you get started.
In general, relaxation techniques are safe; however, there is limited evidence as to how they correlate to specific health conditions. Ongoing research efforts are underway through the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH)
