When you are ready to start actively exploring and experiencing holistic health and wellness, you will want someone to help you find the best therapy for your needs; especially if you are currently under the care of a medical doctor for a specific health condition or chronic illness. Holistic health care, generally speaking, falls into two (2) primary areas, psychological or physical complementary health approaches. Often referred to as mind and body practices (or mind-body medicine), these can include a wide range of specialties

When choosing who to work with -  whether you are seeking an Acupuncturist or a Yoga Instructor or anything in between -  for your particular needs, it is important to:
  • Find out as much as you can about any potential service provider: education, training, licensing, and certifications.
  • Ask for references.
  • Ask if they have a specialty (i.e. acupuncture for fertility, hypnotherapy for best outcomes in medical situations)
  • Ask if they are a member of any professional organizations. This is a sign of high integrity among trustworthy health and wellness providers.
  • Remember that health insurance coverage varies greatly from one plan to another. Contact your insurance provider to find out whether this service will be covered.
Even if it is not covered by your health insurance provider, many consumers have found holistic health care to be quite effective and well worth the investment.

You will also want to remember that, just like prescription medicines, not all techniques are effective for everyone as we are each individuals and there is variation among us all, even family members.

Once you start working with someone, be sure to:
  • Explain all of your health conditions to your new health/wellness care provider.
  • Tell ALL of your health care providers (allopathic and complementary) about each other. Some remedies and medications may have unexpected interactions. Keeping your care providers informed will ensure maximum benefit.
We recommend searching the online directory for Holistic Chamber of Commerce members by clicking here. Keep in mind that your primary care doctor or other health care provider may also be able to suggest names of practitioners in your area.

*Note to HCC members, be sure to update your online directory listing so more people can find you through the HCC! Once and done, here’s a quick video to make it easy: https://youtu.be/DtXuHO85qFo. Need to join? Click here.
