So you're a creative, spiritual entrepreneur or perhaps you sell holistic products/services... Still, to spend more time doing what you want to do, you'll need to make money at it. Yet you want to work in alignment with your values. How do you do that?

Along the way of building the Holistic Chamber of Commerce, I've found five business books that are relevant and resonate with the holistic approach. Whether you listen to your books, read them electronically or prefer the OG hard copy, these are worth your time and money (or get them from the library).

They are, in no particular order:

1. EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey. Subtitled "20 years of practical business wisdom from the trenches," this is the one that has the most nuts-and-bolts approach. It's filled with stories of learning the hard way, that so-called MBA you can get from the School of Hard Knocks. The input, insights and ideas here are sensible and do-able. Another plus, it's easy to read. So much so that I'm reading it a second time!
2. The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin. This is a business book for artists and other like-minded entrepreneurs. This book will inspire and encourage you to get out of your comfort zone. It will push-and-pull you forward further and faster. Godin wants you to fly higher and so does the HCC!
3. POWERSHIFT by Daymond John. The brains behind fashion brand FUBU is now a shark on the iconic Shark Tank. This book is smart and savvy, filled with stories about lessons learned and how to negotiate better outcomes for everyone on all sides of the table.
4. Soul Proprietor by Jane Pollak. The style of this book is brilliant, "101 Lessons from a Lifestyle Entrepreneur." Everything here is short, sweet and practical. Pollak has an easy writing style which makes for easy reading. If you are always on-the-go, you will appreciate this simple and digestible approach to building a business that is bigger and better than...

5. Sales Differentiation by Lee B. Salz. Of the books on this list, this one is most like a conventional business book. Salz comes from a business background and this book is grounded in the fact that you can't avoid competition. In fact, competition can make your life easier... Because there are other people doing what you do, your product and/or service will receive word-of-mouth and people will be aware and educated about it by the time they get to you. This saves you time in signing them up. Still, it's helpful to be aware of the differences between you and the massage therapist on the other side of town. It's good for you to be reminded of why someone would hire you instead of the naturopathic doctor next door. Case in point, as a female, I would be looking for a woman doctor. On some level, sales differentiation is that simple; different people have their own preferences. Consider that the auto dealers in most cities all locate right next to each other (side-by-side with their competitors!) on Auto Center Drive. They see the rationale for co-locating with their competitors as it attracts everyone looking to buy a car and they are easier to find with the rest.

BONUS Book: Happy Money by Ken Honda. If you are still learning to get comfortable with your money, receiving it and having it, then you probably want to start here. Honda has a friendly and readable approach and is well-loved for handling a topic that can be uncomfortable for some.

Of course, I'd also love to share my book, Fresh Starts / Transformation in Action, with you. But these others have a stronger focus on business, sales and money. Fresh Starts is a hybrid sharing both business insights and health and wellness ideas. Enjoy!
