Chapter President Bio
I woke up to the idea of holistic wellness when I experienced traumatic life challenges including colon cancer, lost pregnancies, domestic abuse and attempted suicide. Treatment opened my eyes to the many opportunities for the health care system to better serve patients struggling with similar challenges. I embarked on a journey of self-discovery to better understand my body and improve my well-being. Personal advocacy eventually connected me to countless underserved people who suffered from mental health challenges, substance use disorder and even homelessness. This taught me that we have been forced into a false dichotomy that would have us choose between time-honored Eastern philosophy, tradition and practices, and modern Western medicine and technology. Instead, I've come to believe that the true richness in healing exists at the intersection, where East meets West.
